What we do

Edmonton Go Tech Meetup is built around solving problems with open technology. Go is our go-to language for backend services, CLIs and tooling, but the subject of any given night is a real engineering or business problem — and the open-source tools that solve it.

Recurring formats

🐹 Go Night

Talks and lightning talks with Go front and centre: backend services, concurrency, CLIs, tooling, performance, and what a problem looks like when solved in Go. Typically three 15-minute talks rather than one long presentation.

🧱 Open Source Stack Night

A deep dive into one open technology and the problem it solves. Topics we'd like to cover include PostgreSQL, Incus/LXC, ZFS, Caddy, Grafana/Prometheus, MinIO/S3 and networking.

🔨 Build & Hack Night

No slides. Bring a laptop, a project, or a problem you're stuck on, and work on it with other people.

🧑‍💻 Workshop

Hands-on, guided and practical — everyone leaves with something working. Example: Build a Go API with PostgreSQL.

🏠 Show Me Your Homelab

A show-and-tell for self-hosters and infrastructure enthusiasts: five 10-minute tours of home labs, servers, storage and networks.

Tracks

Rather than separating by language, we organize around the problems:

  • Go — services, APIs, CLI, concurrency, tooling
  • Data — PostgreSQL, SQL, object storage, backups
  • Systems — Linux, containers, virtualization, ZFS
  • Infrastructure — networking, DevOps, observability, security

Everything is tied together by open source and practical engineering.

Propose a topic

Have a problem you'd like to see solved, or an open tool you want to show off? Get involved — we're always looking for speakers and topics.
